At Style by Carden Exteriors, we understand that home repairs and improvements are a big commitment - of both your valuable time and your hard-earned money. We are hoping that by addressing some of the most common concerns, we can give you the information and confidence you need to make the investment in your home. If you did not see your question answered below, please do not hesitate to contact us.
1. Are you a licensed roofing contractor and why is this important?
We are licensed by the State of Illinois, numbers 104.015810 and 105.005774. This is important for the following reasons: licensed roofing contractors must pass examinations based on specifications, standards and practices supported by roofing industry professionals, and they must meet mandated qualifications in verifiable work experience, education and moral character. Licensure also helps protect you from "storm-chasers", those out-of-town scammers looking to make quick money off you - someone they plan on never seeing again!
2. Are you insured and bonded and why is this important?
We are a professional, fully insured and bonded company and we're glad to provide you with copies of our liability and Workers' Compensation certificates. This is vital to you as the homeowner because it protects you in the event a worker gets injured on your property.
3. Are you a certified installer?
Our customer reviews, volume of work, background checks, and commitment to outstanding workmanship and continuous training has earned us Master Elite Contractor status for GAF, North America's largest roofing manufacturer. More than just a fancy title, this recognition allows us to offer the best warranties available in the industry on quality materials installed by our skilled professionals.
4. Are you a local, family-owned and operated company and why does it matter?
We are a family-owned and operated company. Unlike the fly-by-night "contractors" that knock on doors after a storm, we are invested in the area: our families live, work, and attend school in many local Chicagoland communities. Tim and Kelly Carden carefully choose each sales representative and installation crew for their skills and experience. It is this combination, along with strong family values and a sincere commitment to quality, that makes Carden Exteriors unique and impossible to beat when it comes to superior workmanship and follow-through. We take pride in taking care of our customers. After all,it's OUR NAME on the line!
5. Can you give me an estimate over the phone?
We understand that people are busy and that it can be difficult to take time away from work, family and other commitments. While we are able to give you estimates without visiting the property, we often prefer to physically inspect the home's exterior (especially in cases of storm damage). This lets us provide you with the most accurate assessment of its condition, which allows us to give you the most accurate appraisal and recommendations.
6. Many of my neighbors are getting new roofs because of a recent storm. What do I need to do for mine?
Once we have inspected your home, tell your insurance company that Carden Exteriors has identified hail damage. An adjuster will contact you to schedule an appointment to assess the damage. Let them know that you would like us to be there also - it eliminates multiple inspections and conflicting evaluations. You do not have to be there for the inspection, but if there is interior damage (leaks, water stains, etc.), the adjuster will need inside access. Sometimes, the adjuster will complete the paperwork and issue you a check before leaving. More often, though, they will send it at a later date. When you receive it, have your Carden representative review it to make sure that nothing was left out or incorrectly measured or recorded. The first check covers the ACV (Actual Cash Value) of the damaged item - similar to the blue book value of a car.
Subsequent payment(s) is/are released when we invoice the insurance company, and equal the RCV (Replacement Cost Value) - the total of the claim minus your deductible. The insurance company will only pay out what you prove you spent on the repairs (minus the deductible). If all of that still sounds confusing or overwhelming, don't worry - we're here to help you through it! Once we've determined that you are adequately covered for the damage, we help you consider your product choices and colors, review all of the project details, and schedule the work.
7. Do I need a permit to repair my roof?
Every municipality has specific requirements regarding permits. Our professionals are able to take care of obtaining permits when necessary.
8. How long will it take to repair my roof?
Just 1 day is the norm for a typical residential roof. Keep in mind that there are many factors that influence a timeline for completion: roof size, amount of work needed and issues that may arise during installation, and, of course - the weather.
9. I've heard that roofers are the messiest! What can I expect for clean-up?
While that is certainly true of some, we pride ourselves on treating your home as if it were our own! Our crews protect the house and landscaping with tarps and plywood, where necessary. To minimize dust and debris, you can help us by doing the following:
From the time our installers arrive, they have a ground crew that is constantly removing debris and maintaining the landscape. Upon completion, roller magnets are used to pick up any stray nails.
10. What forms of payment do you accept?
For your convenience, we accept cash, check and credit cards.
